Our Approach

A commitment to fairness is the foundation of every assessment. Our process is designed to be impartial and respectful, focusing on a thorough and objective understanding of an individual’s circumstances and needs. For the individuals we visit at home, we want to assure you that our role is to provide a balanced and accurate assessment to the court, and we are committed to ensuring you are treated with dignity throughout the process.

Our History

Our practice was founded in 1994 by occupational therapist Dawn Piebenga. As the owner and principal of an established occupational rehabilitation and injury management provider, Dawn worked extensively with individuals recovering from injury and illness. Through this work, she identified a distinct and growing need for a more specialised and objective approach to medico-legal assessments.

The demand for independent, evidence-based reports became an increasing part of the practice’s focus. Recognising that this specialised area required dedicated resources and systems, the medico-legal component of the business work was consolidated. In 2008, Interface Med Legal was formally established to concentrate exclusively on providing independent care needs assessments and expert witness services to support the legal process and the courts.

Our Mission

To deliver independent occupational therapy assessments that are evidence-based, objective, and clear. We serve the court by providing a thorough analysis of care and support needs to minimise the impact of injury.

Our Vision

To be a trusted provider of high-quality medico-legal assessments, known for our clarity, efficiency, and fairness. We are committed to refining the assessment process to ensure that thorough, well-reasoned reports promote independence and well-being and reduce unnecessary delays for the individuals we assess.

Meet Our Team

Interface is comprised of a nationwide panel of senior occupational therapists, each with a minimum of ten years of clinical experience. All our clinicians hold current AHPRA registration and have expertise across a broad range of areas, including spinal and neurological injury, chronic pain, psychological trauma, catastrophic injuries, paediatric cases, and dust diseases.

To ensure the highest standard of objectivity and consistency, every report undergoes a structured peer-review. During this process, another senior therapist examines the findings and rationale, strengthening the final report and ensuring it reflects our collective expertise.
